Location Data Visualization

Curious about how location data could empower you to build new apps? This challenge is for you.

Gather or join a team of developers for a fast-paced, virtual hackathon focused on building agentic applications (AI-driven tools that are context aware and can take action) with real-world awareness using the Foursquare Places API

You’ll get hands-on with our APIs that bring location data into your codebase, enabling your apps to understand surroundings, POI context, and service with location recommendations in an entirely new way.

Create a free account on https://foursquare.com/developers/signup to get started.

WHY: Build With Purpose

Build Apps That Understand the Real World

In a world full of “smart” apps, most still lack real-world awareness. The Foursquare Hackathon is your chance to change that by building intelligent, agentic apps that react to where people are and what they need.

This isn't just about coding. It’s about crafting context-aware experiences using the power of accurate location data. Whether you’re passionate about AI, app dev, or design, this is your moment to build something truly useful and user-centric.

HOW: The Opportunity

Use the Foursquare Places API to Power Real-World Apps

You’ll get access to Foursquare’s developer toolkit, including their renowned Places API used by some of the world’s leading enterprises to deliver location intelligence at scale.

Don’t know the API yet? No worries, we’ve got guides, documentation, and examples to help you get started fast.

You’ll:

  • Ideate and build alone or with a team (up to 4 members)
  • Use Foursquare’s API to create “agentic” apps, smart assistants, real-time recommendation engines, safety alerts, and more
  • Submit a working prototype and demo video in the final round

WHAT: Your Next Big Build Starts Here

Hackathon Theme:

Why Join?

Real-World Impact

Create location-aware tools that help people navigate, explore, and make smarter real-world decisions.

Learn by Building

Hands-on experience with powerful APIs and AI tools plus mentorship and learning resources to guide your build.

Boost Your Career

Ship a project you can proudly showcase in interviews, portfolios, or client pitches.

Themes

Develop an agentic application or solution that uses at least 1 Foursquare Places API endpoint.

Please create a free account on https://foursquare.com/developers/signup. Foursquare provides up to 10,000 free calls on our standard Pro endpoints.

Finding Relevant Places

Powerful, location-aware consumer applications unlock functionality to find meaningful and recommended places near you (e.g, nearest coffee shop, grocery store, etc). By returning relevant and proximal places, Foursquare enables developers to creatively build new ways to offer users value in agentic applications. Projects in this category will leverage search endpoints to solve inventive challenges and provide great experiences in agentic applications.

Unlocking Contextual Place Information

Return valuable contextual data about a place to offer powerful features in agentic applications (e.g, address, telephone, website, etc.). Projects in this category will leverage the place details endpoints to solve inventive challenges and provide great experiences in agentic applications.
